Where I find inspiration

Paintings

Oil on Wood
The early paintings and drawings demonstrate themes which have remained constant throughout the years. They speak of mystery, a search for community and visual links to inner and outer landscapes.I am amazed how they inform and connect the threads which influence my art practice today.

Pastel on Paper
My drawings are visual notes and sometimes used as a vehicle or a shorthand for ideas in evolution. They can also be complete works executed in a variety of media: coloured pencil, graphite, collage or found objects on paper and are usually done in series and may take up to a week or longer to complete.

Charcoal on Pastel Paper
I dive into the 'flow' of what and where the piece wants to go. My preferred medium is oil on canvas usually, but can be adapted to paper. There’s a richness to the oils and during sessions, there’s a switch in my head and body when I let go, and the paint starts to flow like water, with the sound of the brush in total harmony with my hand and vision for the final piece. Some of the themes that recur is a fascination for cups, vessels any type of bowl or any receptacle.
It's symbolic of the feminine aspect through birth, death, myth and the elements which when mixed, are the crucible of evolution both within the psyche and outside.
Some paintings situate people and things which have vanished from my life. They refer to grief, and honouring those who've departed they pay homage to lost friends, human and animal. It's about the attachments of the heart we form in this life.
